My understanding was that with vmware you are able to move virtual machines from one workstation to another without issues. Thats the idea of virtualization right I have an XP Pro SP2 image running on my laptop using Vmware Workstation 6.0. I'm the IT guy at my company so as you can image I move around to different machines frequently. We don't keep extra laptops on hand so when one breaks, i give up mine and start using my desktop machine until a new laptop arrives. Once the new laptop arrives, i load the machine and copy the image back to it. The problem is when I move my image from my laptop to my desktop and when i move the image from the desktop to the new laptop Microsoft Office wants me to activate again. Since I am moving the VM it shouldn't require activation. I have done some research on the issue and I have entered uuid.action = "keep" into the vmx file and it still requires activation after a move.
I am familiar with the way activation works. I understand that changing hardware will trigger a reactivation. My point is that since the vmware emulated virtual hardware, as far as the guest OS is converned it should not know it was moved. We are a small company and own a volume license for Office 2007 Standard. We also recieve various licenses from the Microsoft Action Pack. One of these license is Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise which has an activation limit of 10. This is the software I am having problems with. There are very few people in the company that require the enterprise license so the 10 licenses we recieve are sufficient and purchasing a volume license for 2007 Enterprise should not be necessary. 153554b96e
