Plot summary
Grace is a former war photographer who has quit her profession after witnessing a violent incident in Iraq. Her husband, Max, is a cataract surgeon who works at an eye clinic in the high Andes of Peru. Nearby, the villagers of Turubamba are suffering from illnesses caused by a mercury spill from a local mine. Saturnina, a young woman in Turubamba, loses her fiancé to the contamination. Ignorant of its true source, the villagers blame the foreign doctors for their misfortune and start a riot. Max is killed in the chaos, and Grace sets out on a journey of mourning to the place of his death. Saturnina, meanwhile, takes drastic measures to protest against the exploitation of her people and her land. Grace and Saturnina's destinies merge in a lyrical and tragic film about sacrifice and redemption in a divided but inextricably linked world.

Conclusion
Altiplano is a beautiful and haunting film that explores the themes of loss, grief, resistance, and hope in a globalized world. It is not a conventional narrative film, but rather a visual poem that invites the viewer to reflect on the connections between humans and nature, between cultures and histories, between life and death. It is a film that challenges and rewards those who are willing to immerse themselves in its rich and complex imagery.
