Bumblebee is an Autobot who is on a mission to protect Sam from the Decepticons, who are after a mysterious artifact called the AllSpark. The AllSpark is a cube that can create new Transformers and give life to machines. The Decepticons kidnap Sam and try to extract information from his mind about the location of another ancient artifact called the Matrix of Leadership. The Matrix of Leadership is a key that can revive an ancient Transformer named The Fallen (Tony Todd), who is the master of Megatron and wants to destroy Earth's sun with a machine called the Solar Harvester. Optimus Prime sacrifices himself to save Sam from Megatron, but is later resurrected by Sam using the Matrix of Leadership. In 2011, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is living with his new girlfriend Carly Spencer (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) and working for a businessman named Dylan Gould (Patrick Dempsey). Sam learns that the Decepticons have been secretly retrieving the parts of the Ark from the moon and plotting to use the space bridge technology to transport their planet Cybertron to Earth's orbit and enslave humanity. A struggling inventor named Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) finds an old truck that turns out to be Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), who is badly wounded and hiding from his enemies. Cade helps Optimus recover and joins him in his quest to find out who is behind the attacks on his kind. They discover that Cemetery Wind is working with a billionaire industrialist named Joshua Joyce (Stanley Tucci), who is creating his own Transformers using a metal called Transformium, derived from the remains of dead Transformers. Joyce's main creation is Galvatron (Frank Welker), who is actually a reincarnated Megatron with a new body. Galvatron plans to use Joyce's technology to create an army of Decepticons and revive an ancient Transformer bounty hunter named Lockdown (Mark Ryan), who has been hired by an unknown force to capture Optimus Prime.
