We have had our sleep number system for a little over 2 months and the base has malfunctioned twice already. The company has not been any help. They passed the buck onto the base manufacturer. My problem with this is, I purchased this system from sleep number, not the manufacturer of the base. I would not recommend purchasing this sleep system to anyone. Considering hiring a lawyer to get my money back. Very disappointed.
Please do not purchase a sleep number bed. We purchased the top of the line sleep number bed and have not been satisfied. The bed gets hot and the support is not comfortable. The investment was not worth it. Only after 2 years we are getting rid of the bed.
Customer service is not the best. Parts are expensive and they do not allow returns of their expensive parts even when the issue it fault on their part. Case in point, I contacted the company to order a replacement foam topper. When I received it I noticed that it was not the same as my previous foam purchase. There was a 1/2 to 1 inch difference in thickness and the quality was subpar. Called the company and was told that indeed, I had received a thicker, different item the previous time but that when they put in the SKU number for the one I previously ordered this one came up and shipped. When I told them this is not what I wanted, I was told that I could order a thicker one but it would cost me more money because I could not return the one I received. I am out 190+ dollars because THEY changed the SKU associated with an item number. I will be filing a complaint with my credit card company and the BBB.BEWARE WHEN RE-ORDERING PARTS. Or better yet, go with another company with better customer service.

I inherited a sleep number bed that was purchased in 2003. I love it, but need to attach a headboard. The kits that are sold are for newer mattresses. Any ideas? Can I drill holes in the hard plastic base? I do not want to replace the bed, but need a headboard. My understanding is that I must use the included platform rather than a different one. Thanks!
We bought a King 9000 in 2007 for about $3200. I t has the power frames and does not split in the middle. We have mostly loved the bed. Because Im good at maintenance moving the bed is little easier for me. However, the pillow top went flat eventually after about 5 years maybe 4. Sleep number wanted at the time $1200 which was flipping rediculous! I unzipped and removed the pillow top and we again enjoyed the bed with a Walmart mattres pad for a $100 which works great. We have had to replace the pump because of deflating twice. This is the third time I need a new pump and they want $350 for new 4 valve because my pump has 4 air lines. Sleep number needs to sell replacement parts for the internal pump parts. I had to move the bed and it started leaking. This time I took apart the pump and sprayed the airlines with soapy water to discover it was a loose hose clamp. While trying to get the air line off the plastic part broke off. They only sell the entire pump sadly. They are a pain in the caboose if you need to move the bed. For the money the pump should be of higher quality. We do love the bed and I would own another one. Wish they would wake up to the parts issues.
We have had our P6 Sleep Number King for like 5 years or more. We both wake up with lower back pain all the time now. Our numbers are about 35 most of the time, which is the closest we can get to comfort. It took me 3 years to pay off this bed. I hate it now. We have to refill the air bags every couple days, as they seem to sag. Albeit, maybe 5 years later the valves are getting leaky, fair enough. But even with the fresh setting for a day or two, still wake up with pain. Your heaviest portion is always sinking the bag, whereas a spring would have even support in all places. I am mostly a side sleeper, and i have to change sides every 2-3 hours all night long usually. Beds are an impossible thing to get right.. You never know what you are gonna get.. sort of like Forest Gump and his Box of Chocolates. and SLeep Number controls the entire search with $$$. Good luck finding bad reviews on Google. It took me a while to even find this page.. F Sleep Number. Ripped me off bad.
the issues that have been described by people does have a fix. I repair most makes and models of beds for home use. I found that the sagging in the middle can be caused by numerous things such as, the air sacks can be installed incorrectly, and by the fact that they are not zipped up together. Sometimes it can be the air sacks could have small holes causing them to leak air causing the pump to overwork it self and to wear out prematurely. When installing the air sacks the hook up for the air hose connection must be facing down towards the base of the bed. Also you can get a 4 inch foam replacement and put it in the top cover and that seems to make the bed feel more comfortable. As far as the remote you could download a sleep number app depending of what model the bed is and operate it by using your smart phone.
Jim,I have had my Sleep Number for almost 2 years and my sleep has been terrible. I have tried a range of numbers. Typically, I like a some what firm bed. I wake up often and might get 4 hours of straight sleep on a good night.Recently had technicians come to make sure the bed was assembled correctly. One of the hoses was loose and they ordered a new pump. My upper body is sore and I have taken to sleeping in the guest room on a Sealy Posturpedic. I find my arms are not as sore.
After a month of tossing and turning all night and not being able to get the setting right. No matter what setting it was not comfortable. It messed up my hips and shoulders. My husband and I bought the P5 sleep number bed, and we feel like we were conned into buying this air matress in a box. What a waste of money. The good reviews have got to be paid for because these few weeks have been our worst night sleep in a long time. No matter what you do the bed inflates and deflates on its own, even after you set a specific number the next day it changes forcing you to try to magically guess which number it is actually on because it malfunctions and never shows you the true number. My husband set it to 35, it deflated completely, concaved, and then rose to a stiff bubble saying it reached 35. It was actually on 75. This happened the second day we had it! Furthermore, the bed will periodically inflate and deflate waking us up from sleep, making the matress as firm as a rock. We tried the bed in store, and ours feels nothing like it. What a marketing scheme. Save yourself the thousands of dollars paid on this fancy wrapped air mattress, and purchase fabric covered plywood. It is comparable in quality, and would probably give you a better nights sleep than a sleep number bed promises to. We are returning ours as soon as we can.
I have A p5 gotten years old no problems, I am kinda nervous now ,hopefully they will improve the defects, and honor their product! As they have in their past. They needed to change to box and hoses and larger wider chamber how sad they did not use good business manners! Wake up sleep number,
I too hate it and over paid for the worse bed I have ever had! Do NOT BUY ONE!!!!!!I agree will a lawsuit over their lies about this sleep # bed.
